2013/2014 Shaun Long Scholarship Program Info

Purpose of Scholarship opportunities
To allow youth players from both the Recreation and Competitive sides of the soccer club to participate regardless of their financial situation.

Procedure for obtaining scholarship
Those interested in obtaining a financial scholarship must apply by completing a Sporting Columbia Financial Aid Request form, to be accompanied by a copy of last year's filed federal income tax statement. Summary page with adjusted gross income listed is sufficient.

Those applying for a scholarship must have the completed application submitted by the deadline. Scholarships received after the deadline will not be eligible for aid consideration. Please check the Club calendar for current deadlines.

Recreation soccer program
Families with multiple players will only be considered for partial aid. Aid will be distributed based on need when comparing all applicants.

A Financial Aid Request Request Form will need to be filled out and accompanied by a letter indicating the player is eligible for the free or reduced school lunch program or other documentation indicating a need for financial assistance such as unemployment benefits, public assistance, or a copy of last year’s filed federal income tax statement.

Recreation scholarship players will have no further club obligations to fulfill for scholarship.

Each application will be reviewed by the scholarship committee.

Competitive (Academy & Pride) soccer program
Families with multiple players will only be considered for partial aid. Aid will be distributed based on need when comparing all applicants.

Those interested in obtaining a financial scholarship must apply by completing a Sporting Columbia Financial Aid Request form, to be accompanied by a copy of last year's filed federal income tax statement. Summary page with adjusted gross income listed is sufficient.

Those obtaining financial scholarships for competitive or academy teams have additional obligations to fulfill to the club during each season played on scholarship.

Scholarship amount
Aid will be distributed based on need when comparing all applicants in the Club.

Each application will be reviewed by the scholarship committee.

Scholarship recipients obligation to club
Competitive players receiving scholarships are required to work additional volunteer hours; BINGO spots or pre-approved alternative.

Recipients of scholarships are required to work two extra BINGO spots per year (twelve hours).

Even though BINGO is preferred for completion of obligation for scholarship, alternatives can be entertained by the scholarship committee at the time of application review.

For pre-approved alternative, the recipient is to turn into the scholarship committee some form of signed documentation to prove completion.

Failure to complete the scholarship obligation will result in withholding of any further scholarships to recipient and the player’s card of the recipients will be pulled until commitments are fulfilled.

It is the responsibility of the scholarship recipient to familiarize themselves with this program and obligations.
